On January 4th Warren and Sara were married and I had the privilege of photographing one of the most lively and colourful weddings I have ever witnessed. There was so much energy and it was impossible not to be swept up in the emotion and events of the day. The venue they chose was the lovely Suikerbossie Restaurant in Hout Bay, Cape Town. It was a lovely hot summers day and the wedding ran smoothly from start to finish. Very pleased to have had a photograph published in the Cape Jewish Chronicle. Congratulations Warren and Sarah. It has been too long since last posting photos to my blog. On Sunday September 26th one of the nicest couples I have had the privilege of working with – tied the knot. The venue they chose was the magnificent Mount Nelson hotel. “Set in a lush garden estate at the heart of Cape Town, the Mount Nelson Hotel is an iconic property that encapsulates the true spirit of Orient-Express.” It rained and it poured and then let up just as the wedding began and we enjoyed some really fine weather thereafter. On Saturday July 17th I drove out to a wedding in Zorgvliet, Western Cape. Zorgvliet Wine Estate is a beautiful venue in truly beautiful surroundings. “With exquisite views of the winelands that complement the historic Cape Dutch architecture of the estate” it was a great setting for the wedding of Janet and Gustaaf.  The wedding itself was short and sweet. Two hours later I was on my way back to Cape Town with a memory card full of images. In late May I was flown out courtesy of J & S to their amazing destination wedding in the Serengeti. From Cape Town it was a short hop and a skip up to Kenya and then Tanzania for a few days safari courtesy of HM Safaris. The wedding took place at the magnificent Mbalageti Lodge with its breath taking views. I was honoured to be their photographer. We were treated to some of the best weather Africa could offer, warm sunny days, bonfires under cool African skies and the start of the world famous wildebeest migration. HM Safaris claim to be  the Tanzanian Safari Specialist and they sure lived up to their claim. Tanzania is ideal for safaris. It is the largest country in East Africa with more than 36% of its land allocated to national parks,  game and forest reserves. Serengeti National Park, Tanzania is renowned for the annual migration of roughly 1.8 million wildebeest making their epic journey north into the Masai Mara in Kenya and then back into Tanzania in their continuous search for new grass. On Saturday, May 8th my cousin Joanne married Steven. I was honoured to be their photographer. As seems to be common with English weddings the ceremony took place in an office separate to the actual wedding venue.  This is to adhere to the marriage law that the premises be approved for marriage by a local authority. We met at the Henley Registration Office in the scenic town of Henley-on-Thames (the town, world renowned for its annual rowing regatta, brought back some great memories from my rowing days). After the civil union and early morning formalities were concluded we tried, rather unsuccessfully, to have breakfast at the Red Lion. Turns out they were fully booked. We then opted to head back to Elvendon, the wedding venue, for a bite to eat. Elvendon Priory, is a historic 11th century building situated near Goring-on-Thames, within the Chiltern Hills of rural south Oxfordshire. In what must have been one of the most beautiful settings in an old English forest among the bluebells, Steven and Joanne were married. This time round things were a little less formal and despite the fresh 8 degree C weather the rain held off and everything turned out beautifully. I have seldom seen a couple so at ease on their wedding day nor as happily in love and well suited. The events, speeches and party that followed were fantastic. On Saturday, April 17th Simone married Malcom. This Cape wedding took place at the magnificent Webersberg in Stellenbosch. Webersberg is situated in the scenic lower valley of the Helderberg Mountains.  http://www.webersburg.co.za : ”Dating back to 1786, the Manor House and Jonkershuis at Webersburg invites you to experience the finest Cape Dutch heritage in its most stylish and comfortable expression.” and offers some lovely settings for wedding photography. The weather, despite the forecast of rain and strong winds was kind on the day with momentary light winds and a short lived but spectacular sunset providing us with lovely warm light. It was an occasion to remember – set among the Cape Winelands of South Africa. On Sunday, March 21st I had the opportunity to photograph the wedding of Bruce and Rebecca. This destination wedding took place at the Chateau Larize, Country House in Warmbaths (now known as Bella Bella). Chateau Larize offers some lovely settings for wedding photography. The weather despite the threat of rain was absolutely amazing with a wonderful sunset providing us with lovely warm light. 110 guests. The dress code was black tie in a garden setting and the atmosphere to quote the bride was indeed very “chilled”. The brides’ bouquet was classic red and Bruce and Rebecca were really fun to work with. As great African destination weddings go, certainly worth the return trip from Cape Town. On Friday, January 8th I had the opportunity to photograph the wedding of Mike and Tracey. This destination wedding took place in Limpopo right on the banks of the river. A truly spectacular setting for a wedding. The weather although hot and dry as is the norm this time of year worked out really well with a fair amount of cloud cover to keep the heat in check. The dress code was also sensible given the climate and the affair was fun, spontaneous and relaxed. Think African bush, gin & tonics in the cool shade, romance, dinner and speeches outdoors under African skies and a true African sunset with great music and dancing lasting well into the night. On Saturday, December 19th I had the opportunity to photograph the wedding of Ryan and Etienne. American Ryan met South African Etienne in the east and the rest as they say is history. The ceremony took place at Hakuna Matata out in Muldersdrift. The wedding was organised by G & T Production House who did an amazing job of putting together a very professional event. The theme was distinctly African and showed in all the finer details from the ostrich eggs on the tables to the guinea fowl feathers used to shower the newly-weds. Weather.com had predicted showers for the afternoon which luckily never materialised and the event took place outdoors with heavy cloud but no rain (thanks Sting)… and actually ended up being a blessing as it helped to ease the highveld summer heat.
